The year was 1989 when Michael Keaton first donned the cape and cowl for Tim Burton’s Batman, Cher wanted to turn back time, and Marty McFly bungled the most sure-fire get-rich-quick scheme in cinematic history in Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future Part II.
After the monumental success of Back to the Future, Univeral Studios approached Robert Zemeckis about creating a sequel to his film that had quickly become a pop culture touchstone. Hesitant about capturing lightning in a bottle twice, Zemeckis said he wouldn’t make the film unless Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd returned as Marty McFly and Doc Brown, respectively. Thankfully, both were game to gas up the DeLorean and push the speedometer to 88mph for another excursion through time. With Fox and Lloyd confirmed, Zemeckis arranged his ceremonial objects to summon his writing partner, Bob Gale, to determine where Marty and Doc would travel next.

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker, whose goal was to determine the best sci-fi movies of all time. The list includes more than 300 titles, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten movies from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.
Of course, since this is indeed an important list, we have decided to report on it, so we are going to bring you the results by listing the top 10 movies on this list, from 10th to first place. We hope you’ll enjoy it!

Within the wonderful world of kids’ movies lies a subgenre that doesn’t get discussed enough: the “Kids on Bikes” adventure movie. A combination of early adventure movies and the “latchkey” kid culture that afforded teens and pre-teens incredible new freedom, these movies occupy a unique space. They’re often intended for audiences in the same young age ranges as their protagonists yet they explore more adult themes and genuinely dangerous situations through the lens of an often wistful version of a particular kind of childhood. And yes, they explore those topics with the help of bikes.
Some are scary, some are uplifting, and some… well, to be honest, some don’t actually have many bicycles in them. In their own ways though, these are the movies that have come to define the “Kids on Bikes” adventure genre.

Princess Diana‘s hairdresser claims Prince William benefitted from his mother’s glam team. The late Princess of Wales’ longtime hairdresser, Richard Dalton, spilled the beans of how she bribed William to sit still for haircuts by allowing him to indulge in this one favorite pastime.
This is the real reason Prince William never fought Princess Diana on getting a haircut
Not unlike other children his age, Prince William wasn’t a fan of sitting still for a haircut. However, Princess Diana devised a plan ensuring William received all the benefits of her glam team with little fuss.
Richard Dalton spoke at People Magazine‘s Fotografiska event. There, he revealed why he had little difficulty getting the future king of the United Kingdom to sit still for a trim.
The stylist revealed William would get “extra television” while Dalton worked on his locks. This was why the young prince wouldn’t make a fuss.

Back to the Future is one of the most iconic films of all time. It managed to completely change the sci-fi genre forever, gained popularity in a way that was unheard of, and started a wave of influence and inspiration that can be felt in Hollywood to date. While the film series, as a whole, has had this effect, there is no denying that the first film always stands out the most.

Science-fiction films have never been cheap to make, and the 1985 film was no different in this regard. However. it would seem that the first film could have been even more expensive had it gone for the original ending.

Before Back to the Future got its wholesome ending, the film was supposed to end in a much darker tone.

"Family Guy" fans will often try to claim that the show's best years were its original three-season run, but I'd argue that the show's peak was somewhere around season 6. The series' comedic style had fully found its groove by this point, not to mention that it really started to lean into the Brian/Stewie duo episodes that everyone loves so much. Best of all, this was the beginning of the show's annual "Star Wars" parody specials.
For three years in a row, we got to enjoy a version of "Star Wars" where all the characters were acting like "Family Guy" characters. It not only created a really fun guessing game of "Who are they gonna pick to play X?" but gave the writers a chance to bring their neurotic observational humor into this familiar cinematic world. It's one thing for Peter to repeatedly groan while clutching his knee; it's another...

Brian Levant's 1994 film version of "The Flintstones" is a classic example of how major studio blockbusters, no matter now successful, can vanish entirely from the public consciousness. "The Flintstones" is rarely regarded in 2024, often seen only as footnote in its actors' careers, or perhaps a whimsical blunder not worth remembering. Those of us alive in 1994 recall the massive advertising glut that came with "The Flintstones," as well as the toy tie-ins, the magazine covers, the Universal Studios attractions, the Williams pinball machine. "The Flintstones" was a studio tentpole writ large, boasting a beloved, decades-old IP and a dazzling cast of celebrities; John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Rosie O'Donnell, and Elizabeth Taylor appeared, while the film boasted cameos from Laraine Newman, Jay Leno, and the B-52's.
Notably, "Jurassic Park" cinematographer Dean Cundey shot the film, while "Jurassic Park" Michael Lantieri similarly served as SFX supervisor. Everything was super-slick and polished nearly to death.

The updated iteration of Gerard Alessandrini’s long-running Forbidden Broadway revue is heading back to Off Broadway following a brief flirtation with the prospect of a Broadway move.
Forbidden Broadway: Merrily We Stole A Song will begin previews August 23 at Theater555 on West 42nd Street. Opening night is set for Thursday, September 12.
Earlier this year, producers for the show announced that the satirical revue would make its decades-in-coming Broadway debut at the Hayes Theatre sometime this summer, but the planned staging was an early casualty of Broadway’s very crowded spring-summer season. Last month, the Broadway producers Ryan Bogner, Victoria Lang and Tracey McFarland said the Hayes staging wouldn’t happen due to the “enormously crowded” Broadway landscape.
Today, Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini said, “I am thrilled that this latest incarnation of the show that I had been preparing for more than a year, can now open Off Broadway,...

In all, 21 of the 34 productions reported some slippage heading into the Memorial Day Weekend holiday. A couple productions played either fewer or comped shows: Mother Play canceled two performances due to illness in the company, with total receipts dropping $186,154 to $451,737. There is a notorious movie principle that says every element of the plot must be there for a reason, while the details that are unnecessary to the plot should be removed. Some films follow this rule in a way they put some hidden easter eggs to call on them in the most important scene to the audience’s excitement.
Here are 5 movies where Chekhov’s guns shot us right in the heart.
1. Shaun of the Dead (2004) - The Gun
Edgar Wright’s zombie comedy is probably the best example of using this technique. Here Chekhov’s gun appears to be a real gun that is hanging on the wall of a local bar. It is introduced in the movie’s beginning and is of much help to the main characters in the climax, as they are trapped in the bar and surrounded by the army of zombies.

Rick and Morty has amassed a strong fan following, particularly among the millennials. However, many would be surprised to know that the sci-fi adult animated show shares a notable connection with Christopher Lloyd’s Back to The Future series. The movie follows an eccentric older man and a teenager who embark on a time-traveling adventure with the help of their hi-tech vehicle.

Primarily due to its character inspirations and thematic elements, the animated show was conceived out of Lloyd’s movie parody, The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti. The Beach Boys are back.
The seminal American band, responsible for such tunes classics as “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Good Vibrations,” originally consisting of brother Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, are getting the feature-length rock doc treatment. And with good reason – the story of The Beach Boys, a band known for their sunny disposition, is fraught with tragedy, disloyalty and acrimony. But all of that pain went into their music, creating something simultaneously euphoric and melancholy. And it will all make for a very juicy documentary – just in time for summer!
When does “The Beach Boys” come out?
“The Beach Boys” premiered Friday, May 24. Just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kick-off to summer.
Is “The Beach Boys” streaming or in theaters?
“The Beach Boys” is streaming exclusively on Disney+.

Marvel has tapped “Star Trek: Picard” executive producer Terry Matalas to resurrect Vision, the synthezoid played by Paul Bettany, for a new, untitled Disney+ series set for 2026, Variety has learned exclusively. Bettany will return to the role and Matalas will serve as showrunner.
After Vision died at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” he returned twice over in 2021’s “WandaVision,” first as a spectral creation by his beloved, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), through magic powered by grief; then as a rebuilt, nuts-and-bolts android with a ghost white appearance and zero memory of his past life. When the two Visions battled in the “WandaVision” finale, Wanda’s Vision restored the ghost Vision’s memories, then Wanda allowed her Vision to fade from existence. The new show will take place after those events, as ghost Vision presumably explores his new purpose in life.

Between Tom Pelphrey’s two current streaming shows, one would think that the series with the shimmering time portal in the ground would have the more off-the-wall ending. But that honor instead belongs to David E. Kelley’s A Man in Full.
Adapted from Tom Wolfe’s novel, the Netflix limited series centers on Jeff Daniels’ Charlie Croker, an overextended billionaire who owes various banks over a billion dollars in overdue loans, and Pelphrey’s Raymond Peepgrass is one of the bankers who’s tired of being stepped on by Charlie both personally and professionally.
All season long, Raymond and Harry Zale (Bill Camp) are on the verge of seizing Charlie’s assets, but he works the system to his advantage to stave off collection. Frustrated, Raymond makes one last move to acquire controlling interest in Charlie’s life’s work — a building called the Concourse,...

Hallmark Channel to adapt The Chicken Sisters as a series
Hallmark Channel has had much success with its original series, including When Calls the Heart, The Way Home, and more. Now, a brand new series is heading to the feel-good channel, based on the 2020 novel “The Chicken Sisters,” written by K.J.
Dell’Antonia. Starring Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson, and Wendie Malick. Meanwhile, Annie Mebane is the showrunner of the series and executive producer of the eight episodes.
New Hallmark Channel series The Chicken Sisters
The Chicken Sisters is a family drama, set in the fictional town of Merinac. Here, a generations-old rift continues between two fried chicken restaurants, Mimi’s and Frannie’s.
This has left the founders’ families fractured, while locals in the town started taking sides. However, when a popular cooking show comes to town, things get even more complicated as sparks begin to fly and secrets are uncovered.

Bhagavan “Doc” Antle’s The Great Tiger Cub Adventure.
The movie was conceived as a Hollywood blockbuster with Kevin Bacon touted for a starring role. It follows three tiger cubs stolen by Evil Biker Bob (presumably not the name on his birth certificate) from a traveling magic show operated by Antle’s Marvelous Marvin. The cubs end up in the possession of several schoolchildren, who stuff them in doll houses and start selling exotic animal photo opportunities to their classmates. This summary makes it sound exciting, right?
Well, the finished product was derided by many of those involved — even Antle referred to it as an “insane piece of crap” on . It definitely doesn’t have to be seen to be believed, but we’ve watched all 48 minutes of it. Here are our findings.

Robert Zemeckis has always loved his toys, but the "Back to the Future" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" director's fondness for tinkering with the latest filmmaking technology has eclipsed his passion for storytelling for a long time. However, between his love-it-or-hate-it Best Picture winner "Forrest Gump" and his motion-capture phase in the aughts, there was a period where Zemeckis found a string of projects that eloquently married his love of tech with his maturing sensibilities as a storyteller. This began with 1997's "Contact," a film adaptation of the late Carl Sagan's 1985 novel of the same name and possibly the unofficial start of the "Matthew McConaughey Takes Off His Shirt in All His Movies" era (but feel free to fact-check me on that).

“What if you could make your peace with your own history?” It’s the question that Director Shawn Levy couldn’t get out of his head after coming across Jonathan Tropper’s script for The Adam Project. The film’s initial premise as a sci-fi action adventure about a surly Air Force pilot who time travels back to his 2022 childhood in an attempt to save the world appealed to Levy’s desire to pay homage to Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, which produced classics like E.T. and Back to the Future.

Each year, World War II stories continue to fill streaming libraries. Just last year, two prominent series in the genre were released: A Small Light, the story of a Dutch woman who helped Anne Frank's family, and Transatlantic, an uplifting tale of activists who evacuated refugees from occupied France. We Were the Lucky Ones stands alongside these projects – it's a heartbreaking story of ordinary people in war.

NBCUniversal showed major love for its film division, primarily the highly anticipated Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-led “Wicked,” during its 2024 upfront presentation Monday in New York.
While not the traditional venue for touting upcoming movies — as this week is all about wooing Madison Avenue to shell out big bucks for prime ad placement on TV — with film chief-turned-overall content boss Donna Langley on stage for her first upfront, the move was a natural moment for synergy.
Langley teed up a new trailer for “Wicked,” a treat just for those attending the presentation at Radio City Music Hall, and promised it will drop wide later this week.

Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis developed an interest in film and television at an early age and first worked in his native Chicago as an editor for TV commercials and news programs. This work led him to apply as a transfer student to the University of Southern California film school where his application material included a music video, set to a song by The Beatles. (Not surprisingly his first film would be “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” about a bunch of high school students obsessed with Beatlemania.)
He was initially rejected by USC but he begged an official to reconsider and promised to bring his low grade point average up by attending summer school. This brashness would also play a big part in his initial success as a director when he barged into Steven Spielberg’s office with a copy of his student film and asked Spielberg to employ him. The...

Director Brian Levant reveals in a new interview that John Goodman did not want to reprise his role of Fred Flintstone in a sequel to the 1994 film, The Flintstones.
In an interview with Total Film, Levant said Goodman went so far as to go to film producer Steven Spielberg, begging for a way out. Goodman starred as Fred alongside Rick Moranis, Elizabeth Perkins, Rosie O’Donnell, Kyle MacLachlan, and Halle Berry in the live action film of the modern Stone Age family.
After having a rough experience throughout filming, Goodman spoke with Spielberg, asking to escape the production of a sequel that was being discussed.
Levant said the plan was to do the same thing with The Flintstones that they did with Back to the Future and shoot back-to-back. But Goodman made an appointment with Spielberg and said, “Please don’t make me do any more of these.”

Back in 2022, the eight-episode feature following the mysterious adventures of Wednesday Addams in Nevermore Academy became Netflix’s most-watched original series ever, beating even the most hyped seasons of Stranger Things and Bridgerton.
Filming of the follow-up has just started in Ireland, and we can finally have a closer look at the second season’s cast changes. Luckily, Wednesday’s main star, the new scream queen Jenna Ortega, will reprise her already iconic role, despite her dropping out of another Netflix’s project, the animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Wednesday Regulars: Who Returns in Season 2?
Firstly, we’ll have some characters elevated to the status of the show’s regulars. These include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, the father of the family, Isaac Ordonez as their son Pugsley, and also Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Ritchie Santiago, the deputy of the local police department.

Cue "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps -- because it's time for "Wednesday" fans to get their groove back on. The second season of Netflix's immensely popular "Addams Family" spinoff series is now officially in production in Ireland after being postponed due to last year's extremely necessary dual actors and writers' strikes. Jenna Ortega will once again lead the way as the titular character, who is still her usual unsmiling and morbid self here. Well, except that, in a twist that left a lot of longtime "Addams Family" enthusiasts confused, season 1 transformed Wednesday into a cross between a Veronica Mars-style teen sleuth and a superhero, complete with heretofore unknown psychic powers.
While our own review wasn't keen on season 1, "Wednesday" broke out in a major way with the youths, not least of all thanks to characters like Wednesday's bubbly werewolf roommate -- and, should all the "Wenclair" shippers get their way,...

“Wednesday” Season 2 is officially in production in Ireland, with Netflix revealing the full cast for the new season of the hit series.
Jenna Ortega will of course be returning as Wednesday Addams, while Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo will all be upped to series regulars for Season 2. Zeta-Jones plays Morticia, while Guzmán plays Gomez and Ordonez plays Pugsley. Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer will also be returning, as will Fred Armisen and Jamie McShane in guest roles.

Netflix’s breakout hit Wednesday has started production on its second season and has added a dozen actors to its cast.

The production has added as series regulars Steve Buscemi (The Big Lebowski), Billie Piper (Scoop), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things) and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime).

Filmmakers often say that they have to personalize their work. After all, they painstakingly devote at least two years of their lives to bring a film to fruition, but in the case of Tarot co-directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, they turned what would normally be a genre exercise into something from the heart.
Tarot — which serves as the writer-directors’ feature directorial debut — is a supernatural horror film involving a group of college friends who, during a weekend getaway, crack open a cursed deck of tarot cards to learn their ominous horoscopes. The tarot card reading is reluctantly led by Harriet Slater’s Haley, who, like Halberg, is a Minnesota native, and shortly after the friend group returns to their Boston-area university, all hell breaks loose as each individual reading comes true in lethal fashion.

Audiences of all ages adore cozy mysteries.
Within the genre, Hallmark mysteries have reigned supreme for years.
The question is which Hallmark mystery movie franchises are the best.
The best cozies contain idyllic settings, well-established characters, and elements of romance and humor. They also need staying power, which is why the multi-movie series are usually the most popular.
With those points in mind, here's how several of them compare.
11. Martha's Vineyard Mysteries (2020–2021)
Jesse Metcalfe plays Jeff Jackson, a medically retired police detective living in the picturesque setting of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. He solves crimes with the help of a doctor and medical examiner, played by Sarah Lind.
This is one of the worst Hallmark mystery franchises in terms of believability. Characters repeatedly get away with things real-life doctors and cops could not do, such as freely sharing confidential information with multiple other characters.

30 years after its release, director Brian Levant's "The Flintstones" remains an incredible-looking movie. The 1994 live-action take on Hanna-Barbera's famous prehistoric cartoon sitcom is littered with astonishingly detailed practical sets bringing the primitive suburbia known as Bedrock to colorful life. Equally remarkable are the practical animatronics used to realize the various critters that function as household items in the "Flintstones" universe, including a "garbage disposal" in the form of a Stone Age pig-like creature known as the Pigosaurus and the sassy "recording device" known as the Dictabird. Tragically, though, the movie's original puppet for the Flintstones' pet dinosaur, a Snorkasaurus named Dino, was replaced with a CGI version during development, as detailed in Patrick (H) Willems' excellent video essay, "The Rise And Fall Of Muppet Cinema."
The problem with "The Flintstones," is, well, everything else. Being rooted in mid-20th-century suburban stereotypes, the characters from the "Flintstones" cartoon aren't substantial...

Alan Silvestri is a legendary composer who counts like likes of Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Lilo & Stitch, and Ready Player One among his many credits. He's also something of an icon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Responsible for creating the now unmistakable theme for Earth's Mightiest Heroes first heard in 2012's The Avengers, Silvestri kicked off his MCU run by lending his talents to Captain America: The First Avenger. He'd later return for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Total Film recently caught up with the composer and asked if he's planning to work on another Marvel movie.

Stereophonic became the most nominated play in Tony Awards history Tuesday, scoring a surprisingly strong 13 nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards, including acting nods for almost the entire cast. Several other shows also saw most of their leading roles nominated, including Days of Wine and Roses, which closed early but still saw nominations for its leads Kelli O’Hara and Brian D’Arcy James, as well as Merrily We Roll Along, which saw nominations for its three leads, Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez.
Stereophonic also landed a best score nomination, a bit unusual since the production is a play, but it features original songs written by ex-Arcade Fire member Will Butler for the fictional band at the center of the story. While the songs in the play have been praised, the nomination is a bit atypical given that most of the songs featured in the musical are delivered in snippets,...

Daniel Radcliffe’s post-“Harry Potter” career has long been dominated by his theater work, both in New York and London. On April 30, he finally scored his first Tony nomination, for his role in the musical “Merrily We Roll Along.”
Radcliffe’s buzzy stage work began in 2007 with a run in “Equus” on both sides of the pond. He powered a delightful, blockbuster revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” in 2011 (Grammy nomination), and since then, he has chosen an eclectic mix of projects, work where his name alone can often get challenging — or even just serious — work funded. Think the occasionally dense “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” the provocative “Privacy,” or the genre-bending experiment “The Lifespan of a Fact.” He’s long been an asset to the NY stage scene, and this morning’s recognition long-deserved.

Tom Hanks is known for his good-guy characters in his films. Be it romantic comedies such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, or dramas such as Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, the actor always plays roles that represent the morally right side of humanity. With his penchant for such sweet roles, he has been nicknamed the Dad of Hollywood.
However, Hanks reportedly does not have the need to stick to such roles. He recently played Elvis Presley’s antagonistic manager Col. Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which was different from his usual good-guy roles. He has also mentioned that he fought against decisions made by directors to portray him as a good guy, especially in a pivotal scene in his Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

“Knuckles,” the live-action/animated spinoff series currently streaming on Paramount+ and featuring the titular red Echidna warrior (voiced by Idris Elba), kicks things off with an amusing ’90s throwback opening title sequence. We encounter markered animations (done by Picturemill) of the main characters, as they jump across the labels of mixed CDs in a binder and roll by the credits, to the tune of “The Warrior” by Scandal featuring Patty Smyth.
It’s all part of Knuckles getting introduced to the “earth music” of his new protégé, dim-witted deputy sheriff Wade Whipples (Adam Pally), while trying to teach him the ways of Echidna-style fighting.
This marks the first series for Knuckles, based on Sega’s popular Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise, which takes place between the events of the films “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which introduced Elba. It was created by John Whittington (“Sonic the Hedgehog 2...
