- In the DVD, the Dolby Digital & DTS 5.1 tracks omit a short musical cue of Rocky's theme when the bell rings at the end of the 15th round, which is present in the original mono soundtrack.
- AMC broadcasts in the US use the sped-up 25 fps PAL video from a 24 fps film source.
- In the original CBS Fox VHS, when Rocky is collecting from Bob, the lines "Gazzo don't have to know, he won't be wise to nothing, Gazzo won't be wise to nothing, keep the coat" is omitted from this version but appears to be in all other versions.
- The United Artists logo was plastered with the 1982 variant in the 1984 VHS, 1994 variant in the 1996 VHS, and 1987 variant in the 1994 and 2001 VHS prints in addition to the 1997 DVD while the 1990 VHS featured the MGM/UA Communications Co. preceding the 1987 United Artists logo. The 2004 DVD and current prints had the opening MGM and 2001 United Artists logos, and closing MGM logo. But the Blu-ray contained the 2012 MGM and 1994 United Artists logos in the opening, and 2012 MGM logo as the closing logo.
- The 2001 DVD restored the 1976 United Artists logo while maintaining the fanfare from the 1994 variant.
- Talia Shire's character Adrian becomes Adriana in the Italian version.
- A different ending was originally filmed for this movie. In the original ending, Rocky walked out of the ring and met Adrian in the tunnel to the stadium. They walked down the tunnel, hand in hand, and the last shot was from behind of Rocky and Adrian walking down the tunnel. Test audiences said the end was too depressing and it was reshot with Adrian's now classic run to the ring while Rocky screams her name.
