“Fallout 76” has found a whole new world of players thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series. The Bethesda Game Studios title, which first launched in October 2018, crossed 20 million downloads and plays as of Wednesday.
That is a jump from the 17 million players “Fallout 76” had totaled in December, ahead of the April 10 release of Jonathan Nolan’s “Fallout” TV adaptation on Prime Video.
“It’s kind of been sneaky popular for a while — but not to this level and it’s just been really great for the for the whole studio,” Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard, who oversees the “Fallout” franchise, told Variety.
In the under two months since the series premiered (and has already been picked up for a second season), daily active users across the “Fallout” video game franchise titles developed and published by Bethesda, a division of Microsoft Gaming, have ballooned over 600% to more than 5 million players.

Fallout has become one of Prime Video’s biggest series ever — according to Prime Video.
The well-reviewed show, based on the video game franchise of the same name, has become the second-most-watched title ever on the Amazon streaming service over its first 16 days of release, the company says. Prime Video says 65 million viewers worldwide have watched at least some of Fallout since its April 10 premiere, putting the show behind only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in the streamer’s catalog.
Global audiences have powered a majority of that viewing: More than 60 percent of Fallout’s audience is outside the United States. The (limited) data from Amazon jibes with that from outside sources like Samba TV, Luminate and Reelgood, all of which have tracked a strong start for the series (Nielsen’s streaming data lags by several weeks).

“Fallout” is proving to be far from a (nuclear) bomb for Amazon’s Prime Video.
According to the streamer, the series pulled in 65 million viewers in its first 16 days of availability, with the first season dropping in its entirety on April 10. That makes it the second most-watched title ever on the platform and the most-watched title since the debut on “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” back in 2022.
Amazon also says the show is its most-watched ever among adults 18-34, with 60% of the show’s audience coming from outside the United States. In particular, the UK, France, and Brazil have all proven to be hubs for the show’s popularity. It should be noted, however, that Amazon has not released any data on how viewers are counted, especially when it comes to completion of the show. Therefore, it is unknown if a viewer is counted once they have completed a single episode,...

The Fallout TV show‘s executive producers may not have known how the show would be received when it was released, but they were ambitious enough to plan for future seasons.
In a recent interview, executive producer Jonathan Nolan and co-showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner spoke about how they tried to balance injecting plot into the show without it seeming surface-level, as well as hinting at their plans for Season 2.

The Fallout TV series has been out for less than two weeks, and already it is garnering considerable attention from casual viewers and hardcore fans alike. The positive reception of the show is undeniable, and Amazon Prime has already taken its victory lap with the recent announcement that a second season has been greenlit.
Although much can be said for the creative talents of Jonathan Nolan and Todd Howard who worked their magic behind the camera, they cannot take all the credit. Several exceptional actors brought new characters of the franchise to the next level, and it was Moisés Arias who truly stole the show for many. His portrayal of Norm MacLean and the journey taken to discover the secret behind Vault 31 was essential in setting the tone and building tension.

It’s undeniable. Fallout is an absolute hit, and the age of terrible TV adaptations and low expectations is behind us (Halo notwithstanding). After years of sub-standard, terrible adaptations like Resident Evil, Max Payne, and countless others, we gamers thought we were in for the long haul while waiting for good quality TV and movies. Well, that wait is certainly over.
First, we got The Last of Us, then the critically panned but as-equally fun The Super Mario Bros. Movie which was an incredible Mario experience, if a terrible film, and now we have the excellent Prime Video Fallout. And this wealth of good gaming content on the big screen means a few knock-on effects in the actual gaming space.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for Prime Video’s “Fallout,” including the finale.]
After eight episodes of flashbacks and intertwined perilous adventures, Prime Video’s “Fallout” reaches its climactic conclusion, with the door wide open to keep going. Set in the sprawling and fruitful world of Bethesda Softworks’ popular video game series, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner’s dystopian drama brings Season 1 to a head in the final episode with a dizzying number of revelations.
Most of those twists come back to Vault-Tec, the organization behind nuclear fallout shelters like Lucy’s (Ella Purnell). Vault-Tec controls the vault population by assigning old executives as Overseers; Vault-Tec destroyed Shady Sands in order to maintain supremacy; Vault-Tec controls the Brotherhood of Steel; and most damning of all, Cooper’s past (Walton Goggins) reveals that Vault-Tec may have even dropped the first bomb.

No, it’s not a TV version of Fallout 5 or an adaptation of any one game in the franchise, but the Amazon series is set in the same timeline as the games, so its big twists and reveals pack an absolute punch for fans up to speed with Fallout lore. Through eight episodes, we follow Lucy (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) as they uncover the mysteries of Vault-Tec and the Wastelanders who attacked Vault 33 at the start of the season. While they initially set out on their own quests, their paths all converge by the end, as a MacGuffin hunt turns into something much bigger that will affect the future of the Fallout series for years to come.

A ravaged post-apocalyptic wasteland, like the one in the "Fallout" video game franchise, is like a minefield waiting to explode. Treacherous terrains, radioactive water bodies, aggressive wastelanders, and mutated insects are just some of the dangers that await any explorer, and "Fallout" relies on one in-game mechanic to immerse players into its dynamic open worlds. A Pip-Boy, short for Personal Information Processor, acts as a diegetic tool in every "Fallout" title, where everything from inventory management to a specialized targeting combat system (known as V.A.T.S) is embedded within this portable wrist computer. Although Pip-Boys were originally issued to vault dwellers, their usage spread to the surface, where several Free State inhabitants relied on them for survival and navigation. A stark wooden cross stands in a moonlit cemetery in the opening episode of Fallout, Amazon’s eccentric and capacious adaptation of the video game series. From each arm hangs an IV bag that feeds a yellow liquid into a grave. There lies the body of Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), an erstwhile cowboy who struck gold as a western film star before being blacklisted for alleged communist affiliations. Cooper lived in a distinctively retro-futurist United States. In this alternate universe, the 2070s were marked by escalating war between America and China and seemingly stuck in the 1950s, with black-and-white TVs and classic cars—plus robots that helped apron-clad homemakers around the house. Then the bombs fell, in a bout of mutually assured destruction that eradicated almost all life on Earth.
More than 200 years after the nuclear calamity, a trio of wary mercenaries dig up Cooper’s tomb and find a coffin chained shut.

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise won’t begin streaming until April 12th, but season 2 of the show is already moving forward. While the first season was primarily filmed in New York (with some filming also taking place in Utah), Variety reports that the production will be moving to California for the next sequel. That’s not to take advantage of filming locations there, but rather to get a tax break. The California Film Commission just awarded $152 million in tax incentives to a dozen different TV shows, and Fallout is on the list. For filming the next season in California, the show will receive $25 million in California tax credits.
The budget for the show is quite large, as Variety notes that it has $153 million in qualified expenditures for the season.

Actor Walton Goggins, who essays the dual roles of Cooper Howard, a B-movie western star, and The Ghoul, his 200-hundred-year-old mutant killer version in the streaming series ‘Fallout’, shared that his nose was digitally removed for his part of The Ghoul in the show.
The actor revealed that it was quite challenging for him to find the two characters as they’re vastly different from each other.
Shedding light on his character of The Ghoul, the actor said, “The Ghoul is a rascal, really. He’s got a great sense of humour, but underneath that is a lot of pain. He’s seen a lot and felt a lot and all the rest of it. And Cooper’s a kind, patient, caring product of the Greatest Generation. He’s about the best this country has to offer.”
Goggins’ transformation into The Ghoul goes beyond acting. The character’s signature look involved extensive makeup and prosthetics.
